Preparing for Surgery
How Can I Prepare For My Procedure?
- We need to know about YOU, your health history, planned procedure, medication names dosages, and previous surgeries. You can complete your health history before the day of surgery.
- Bathe or shower and brush your teeth (taking care not to swallow any water), the morning of surgery. This will assist you in feeling refreshed as well as minimize the chance of infection.
- Diet: For all patients, DO NOT eat or drink anything after midnight (including water, mints or chewing gum) before your surgery. Undigested food in the stomach can cause complications and your surgery will be postponed if you forget.
- Medications: Your doctor will let you know if there are certain medications you must stop prior to your surgery. If you are on any blood thinners, ask the doctor if you need to stop. DO TAKE any medications prescribed for blood pressure, heart, respiratory, thyroid, seizure, anxiety/anti-depressants with a sip of water as you normally would on the day of surgery.
- What to wear: Dress for comfort and warmth, the building will be quite cool. Family members also can get chilly in our waiting room. Wear flat, comfortable shoes and loose clothing. Leave jewelry, contact lenses and other valuables at home for safekeeping. You may leave your wedding rings on.
- What to bring: For your safety, to ensure correct identification of our patients and prevention of identity theft, please bring a photo ID and your insurance card.
- WHEN TO GET HERE: A Staff Member will call the day before your procedure with the time for you to arrive. You will also be informed of your expected co-pay or deductible. Please be sure we have a correct phone number where we may reach you or leave a message
